Denver Metro Village

Denver Metro Village - Fly Through

DMV is an existing senior housing community located on West Colfax. The project involves four-story addition that adds 19 new units and a new four story parking garage with 180 new sparking spaces and ground floor retail. The project also includes comprehensive renovations to the existing 18 story high rise tower that houses 190 existing units. This complex project required extensive coordination with residents and agencies.

The remodeling is beautiful, but the crime in the area overshadows everything

When living in HUD-related buildings you can count on the staff going into your apartment OFTEN. They do inspections, check for bed bugs, fire alarms, water pipes, electrical, etc. It's part of being a tenant. The shooter in the 2013 incident didn't like that

My question would be, "How did he even had a gun inside the building? Mom's lived in a few HUD-related buildings, in Colorado and elsewhere and they don't allow guns. It's even part of the move-in application process."

My disabled mom had gotten on the waiting list for this low-income senior community. She got approved and then we started watching the crime reports

We knew it wasn't the best area of town, but felt inside the secure building would be safe. Then the "burglary of a residence without forced entry, Wednesday Jan. 10" showed up on the reports

That was enough for us to say, "Nope, not moving there"

It's too bad, because the part she was to live in was newly built and the staff were nice

That's when we found about report about a previous tenant in 2013 shot the manager and then killed himself in front of other tenants!

Senior in parking lot
Video from Pubity at https://www.tiktok.com/@pubity

EVERY senior community needs an inoperable car with working radio in their parking lot. That way the senior can sit in it rocking out for the memories. For some that might be the only joy they have in life, especially if their families have taken them to senior communities or nursing homes and rarely, if ever, visit.
